SAFETY FIRST.
SAFETY ALWAYS.
Danger is greatest during summer heat, but you should always be hydrated, well-fed, properly clothed and ready for anything we encounter. The Joshua Tree National Park site has an excellent page detailing all precautions you should be aware of. See that page HERE.
BEFORE YOU GO.
In addition to the extensive health-related issues from the site linked above, you should also:
-
Bring layers. From sweltering heat, to windy weather, to rain, you should be ready for all possibilities. Hat. Sunscreen. Sunglasses. You get it.
-
Sturdy shoes with good grip are ideal, especially if you do any scrambling.
-
There may be wasps and bees on the trail. If allergic, prepare accordingly.
-
Bring water (lots!) and snacks. While I will provide snacks, they may not be to your liking. The best idea is to have a hearty breakfast before you meet up with me. There in NO food or water available in the park.
-
If you are an international traveler, bring google translate to help us communicate.
-
If you have the ALLTRAILS app, be sure to DOWNLOAD the maps as there is no cell service in the park.
-
Charge your phone to 100% before leaving.
-
No drugs or alcohol. Smoking only allowed 100ft from vehicle.
